⚙️ Selection Process

The selection for all posts is done through Recruitment by Selection mode, which involves:

  1. Shortlisting — Based on information furnished in the online application (qualification, experience, desirable qualifications). UPSC may restrict candidates using DQ, higher qualification, higher experience, or by conducting a Recruitment Test.
  2. Recruitment Test (RT) / Combined Recruitment Test (CRT) — May be conducted for posts with a large number of applicants. Not mandatory for all posts.
  3. Personality Test (Interview) — Final interview worth 100 marks. Minimum qualifying score: 50 (UR), 45 (OBC), 40 (SC/ST/PwBD).
  4. Document Verification — Before/after interview; original documents to be produced.
  5. Medical Examination — Selected candidates must satisfy government medical authorities.

UPSC Selection posts have a good competition, but it is more about quality than numbers. Those having good experience and qualifications only get shortlisted. Mentioning all qualifications and experience in your application form becomes very essential due to this reason.

📚 Examination Syllabus

The advertisement does not prescribe a fixed written exam syllabus, as these are Recruitment by Selection posts. However:

  • Recruitment Test (RT), if conducted, is subject-specific and based on the discipline of the post applied for.
  • Questions typically cover the technical/professional domain of the post — for example, Engineering subjects for engineering posts, Meteorology for IMD posts, Chemistry for MSME/PESO posts, etc.
  • The interview (Personality Test) assesses subject knowledge, analytical ability, communication, leadership, and suitability for the post.

Candidates need to prepare themselves completely regarding their specific technical subjects as per their respective fields. In case of candidates applying for IMD Scientist-B, DGCA Airworthiness Officer, and Mining positions, having technical knowledge regarding their field becomes extremely important.
