Those awaiting their results need not apply. Your certificate of degree/diploma must be in the notified discipline only, as there is strict scrutiny of academic qualifications by ISTRAC.
📉 Minimum Qualifying Marks
Written Test/CBT Pass Marks:
| Category | Technical/Scientific/Library Assistant, Technician-B, Draughtsman-B (out of 80) | Cook-A (out of 60) |
|---|---|---|
| Unreserved | 32/80 | Qualifying nature |
| Reserved (only if post is reserved) | 24/80 | Qualifying nature |
Skill Test Pass Marks:
| Post | Skill Test Marks |
|---|---|
| Technician-B / Draughtsman-B / Technical Assistant / Scientific Assistant / Library Assistant-A | UR: 50/100, Reserved: 40/100 |
| Cook-A | 60/100 (no relaxation for any category) |
Just clearing the cutoff for the written test will not ensure selection; one needs to clear both rounds. The awareness about the qualifying marks before hand enables you to prepare your strategy accordingly.
🎂 Age Limit
As on 20.07.2026:
| Post | Age Limit |
|---|---|
| Technician-B, Draughtsman-B | 18–35 years |
| Technical Assistant, Scientific Assistant, Library Assistant-A, Cook-A | Age limit as per notification (same cut-off date applies) |
Age Relaxation:
- SC/ST: 5 years relaxation (only where post is reserved)
- OBC: 3 years relaxation (only where post is reserved)
- EWS candidates: No age relaxation
- PwBD, Ex-servicemen, Departmental candidates, Meritorious sportspersons, Widows/Divorced women: relaxation as per Govt. of India rules
Age relaxation rules may seem complicated, so candidates should verify whether that particular post has any age relaxation for their category. It needs to be remembered that if there is no age relaxation, then SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates have to compete with general candidates on an equal footing.
💰 Application Fee
| Post Category | Application Fee (Non-refundable) | Processing Fee (paid upfront) |

| Technician-B / Draughtsman-B / Cook-A | ₹100 | ₹500 (refunded if you appear for Written Test/CBT) |
Refund Details:

- Refund only if you appear for the Written Test/CBT
- Payment Mode: Online only via Bharatkosh e-Payment Gateway (Net Banking/UPI/Debit Card). Cash, cheque, DD, money order are not accepted.
The special refund basis for the fees paid implies that successful applicants practically pay nothing — but failing the test will result in the complete loss of all the fees paid. Please, be sure to fill out your banking information correctly.
⚙️ Selection Process
The selection process has three stages:
- Initial Screening – based on academic performance and other parameters in the online application
- Written Test/CBT – 80 MCQs in 1.5 hours (60 MCQs for Cook-A) with +1 mark for correct answer and -0.33 for wrong answer
- Skill Test – purely Go/No-Go basis (qualifying nature)
The criteria for Shortlisting for Skill Test will be on 1:5 ratio, with a minimum of 10 candidates shortlisted depending upon their performance in Written Test. The final selection will depend upon their merit in Written Test/CBT amongst those candidates who qualify in the Skill Test. In case of tie, marks in academic qualifications will be considered as tie breaker.
This step-by-step screening process implies that not only theoretical knowledge but practical skills of the trade are required for the job; just clearing the written test will not fetch you the job.
📚 Examination Syllabus
| Post | Exam Pattern |
|---|---|
| Technician-B / Draughtsman-B | 80 MCQs, 1.5 hours, curriculum-based (NCVT trade syllabus) |
| Technical Assistant / Scientific Assistant / Library Assistant-A | 80 MCQs, 1.5 hours, curriculum-based (Diploma/Degree subject syllabus) |
| Cook-A | 60 MCQs, 1.5 hours, curriculum-based |
Syllabus is based on the curriculum of the ITI/Diploma/Degree course you are taking, and hence the questions would directly come from your syllabus. You can attempt the exam either in Hindi or English medium and the test will take place in Bengaluru or other parts of India (the skill test takes place only in Bengaluru).
