The South East Central Railway zone is one of the most prominent zones in the Indian Railways family, having its headquarters in Bilaspur, with Nagpur being one of its most significant divisions. 🎓 Educational Qualification

To apply for SECR Nagpur Apprentice 2026, candidates must have:

• 10th (Matriculation) or equivalent passed with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
• ITI Certificate (NTC) in the relevant/notified trade issued by NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training), OR a Provisional Certificate issued by NCVT / SCVT (State Council for Vocational Training).
• Candidates must fill both 10th marks and ITI marks on the portal in the qualification section. Failure to do so will result in automatic rejection.
• Do NOT fill any higher qualification (graduation/diploma) on the portal.

❌ Engineering Graduates and Diploma Holders are NOT eligible for this notification. They are governed by a separate apprenticeship scheme.

ITI-qualified youth from trades like Electrician, Fitter, COPA, Welder, Carpenter, Plumber, Turner, Machinist, and more are directly eligible. Make sure your ITI trade matches the applied trade to avoid rejection.

📉 Minimum Qualifying Marks

The merit list will be made after combining the Matriculation percentage and ITI marks. In case where the board follows the grading system like AP board and Kerala board, SECR will find out the mid value of the grade in each subject and then make the average assuming each subject is of 100 marks. It goes without saying that having a good percentage in both 10th and ITI makes your chances of selection bright because there will be no written examination.

🎂 Age Limit

As on 19 May 2026:

Summary:

• Minimum Age: 15 Years
• Maximum Age: 24 Years (for UR)
• SC/ST: 5 years relaxation (max 29 years)
• OBC: 3 years relaxation (max 27 years)
• PwBD & Ex-Servicemen: 10 years relaxation (max 34 years)

Age relaxation for Ex-Servicemen: The upper age limit will be relaxed further by the number of years of actual defense service plus three years, on condition that at least six months of continuous service is completed. Age relaxation for OBC and SC/ST candidates will depend upon submitting a valid caste certificate in the Central Government format.

💰 Application Fee

There is NO application fee for SECR Nagpur Apprentice Recruitment 2026.

The application is made free of cost through the NAPS portal available at https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in. This is one major benefit to the students from the economically weaker sections. As the application is done free of cost via an online portal, applicants should be very careful while submitting their applications.

⚙️ Selection Process

Selection is merit-based — there is NO written examination.

Step 1: Merit list is prepared based on:

• Marks obtained in Matriculation (10th) — minimum 50% aggregate required
• ITI marks in the relevant trade

Step 2: Shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification

Step 3: Medical Fitness Test by Railways (appropriate category as per workshop/division norms)

Tie-breaking rule: If two candidates have the same marks, the older candidate gets preference. If date of birth is also same, the one who passed Matriculation earlier gets priority.

⚠️ No TA/DA will be paid for document verification.

Since the selection is done purely on the basis of merit through existing academic marks, students with high marks in 10th and ITI will have an obvious advantage. There is no written test to be cracked; marksheet itself becomes the scorecard. Ensure genuineness of documents.

📚 Training Details & Stipend

• Training Duration: 1 year only
• Training Standards: As per syllabus/standards issued by the Central Apprenticeship Council
• Stipend: Candidates undergoing training will receive a stipend as per prescribed government rates during the training period.
• Training is regulated centrally and candidates will get exposure to real-world railway operations and maintenance.

ℹ️ After completion of training, neither the Railway is obligated to offer employment nor is the apprentice obligated to accept employment. This training is purely skill-based.

During the period of training, the stipend provided allows trainees to manage their expenses and at the same time gain experience. The training provided by Indian Railways in apprenticeship is highly regarded and adds weight to your resume.

⏰ The application window is only 30 days. Missing the deadline means waiting another year. Submit your application well before 18 June 2026 to avoid last-minute technical issues on the portal.

1. Visit the official portal: Go to https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in
2. Register/Login: Create a new account or log in if already registered on the NAPS portal.
3. Search the Establishment: Use Establishment Code E05202702695 (Nagpur Division) or E05202702494 (Motibagh Workshop).
4. Choose your unit: Select either Nagpur Division OR Motibagh Workshop — only one can be chosen.
5. Fill in your details: Enter personal information, educational qualifications, trade preference carefully.
6. Enter 10th & ITI Marks: This is mandatory. Fill marks accurately in the qualification section. Do not add higher qualification details.
7. Upload documents: Upload required certificates (10th marksheet, ITI certificate, caste certificate if applicable, PwBD/Ex-Servicemen certificate if applicable).

10. EWS/Ex-Servicemen applicants: If the portal doesn’t show the EWS/Ex-Servicemen option, apply under your actual category (UR/OBC/SC/ST) and physically submit the EWS/Ex-Servicemen certificate to the Divisional Personnel Office, Nagpur.

📜 General Conditions & Important Rules

• Candidates who have previously completed apprenticeship in any organization are NOT eligible to apply again.
• Engineering Graduates and Diploma Holders cannot apply under this notification.
• Candidates must ensure they fulfil all eligibility criteria before applying. If found ineligible at any stage, candidature will be cancelled without notice.
• Fake/false certificates will lead to immediate disqualification and possible legal action.
• No request for change of division/unit will be entertained after selection.
• No accommodation will be provided by Railways. Apprentices must arrange their own stay.
• No TA/DA for document verification.
• The administration’s decision on the final merit list is final and binding.
• For conflict between Hindi and English versions of the notification, the English version will prevail.
• Minor candidates must have their guardian sign the apprenticeship contract on their behalf.
• OBC candidates must submit the latest caste certificate in Central Government format to avail age relaxation. Same applies to SC/ST candidates.
