IBPS is an independent organization established by the RBI along with other public sector banks with the aim of ensuring uniformity in recruiting candidates in the banking industry. The recruitment for clerical cadre is done on a state or union territory basis, which means that candidates have to sit for only one test in order to qualify for allotment to any bank from among those participating in the respective state.
📊 Number of Vacancies & Participating Banks
Total Vacancies (Indicative): 11,400+ across India (many banks have not yet reported figures, so this number may increase further).
Participating Banks:
Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab National Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, UCO Bank, Union Bank of India.

Full category-wise (SC/ST/OBC/EWS/UR/PwBD) breakup for every bank and state is given in Annexure-I of the official notification.
More vacancies in reserved category will help in proper management of competition, as those candidates belonging to the category of SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen get an age relaxation and concession in fees, and hence, this is truly an inclusive effort. The fact that these vacancies are present in almost all states gives flexibility to the aspirants.
🎓 Discipline & Educational Qualification
- Minimum Qualification: A Degree (Graduation) in any discipline from a recognized university, or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government.
- Candidates must hold a valid mark-sheet/degree certificate on the date of registration and enter their graduation percentage while applying.
- Computer Literacy: Mandatory — candidates need a certificate/diploma/degree in computer operations, or must have studied Computer/IT as a subject in school/college.
- Local Language: Candidates must be proficient (read/write/speak/understand) in the specified local language of the State/UT they are applying for (see Annexure-III of the notification for the state-wise language list).
- Ex-servicemen without civil qualifications may qualify via the Army Special Certificate of Education (after 15+ years of service).
This is a graduate-level clerical selection process where any degree does not matter since graduates of commerce, arts, science and engineering can apply. It is important to note that both the native language criterion and computer literacy are usually overlooked by new applicants.
📉 Minimum Qualifying Marks / Cut-off
- Cut-off marks for each section (Prelims) and overall cut-off (Mains) will be decided by IBPS based on category-wise vacancies.
- Candidates must qualify in each individual test as well as achieve the required overall score to advance.
- Only Main Exam marks are used for final merit and provisional allotment.
Cut-offs vary every year depending on the number of vacancies, difficulty level, and number of applicants in each state — so aim to score well above the expected sectional cut-offs rather than just “passing” each section.
🎂 Age Limit (As on 01.08.2026)
- Minimum Age: 20 years
- Maximum Age: 28 years
- Candidates must be born not earlier than 02.08.1998 and not later than 01.08.2006.
Age Relaxation:
| Category | Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC/ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) | 10 years |
| Ex-Servicemen/Disabled Ex-Servicemen | Service rendered + 3 years (8 years for SC/ST DESM), max age 50 |
| Widows/Divorced/Legally Separated Women (not remarried) | Up to 35 (Gen/EWS), 38 (OBC), 40 (SC/ST) |
Age relaxation categories can be combined only with one additional category (e.g., SC/ST + Ex-Servicemen), so check the notification’s cumulative relaxation rules carefully before filling the form.
💰 Application Fee
| Category | Fee (incl. GST) |
|---|---|
| SC/ST/PwBD/ESM/DESM | ₹175/- |
| All Others (General/OBC/EWS) | ₹850/- |
- Payment mode: Online only — Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, IMPS, Wallets, or UPI.
- Bank transaction charges (if any) are to be borne by the candidate.
- Fee once paid is non-refundable.
The lower fee for reserved categories is a good relief, but remember — once paid, there’s no refund even if you decide not to appear, so apply only when you’re sure of your eligibility.
⚙️ Selection Process
The CRP CSA-XVI selection is a two-tier online examination:
- Online Preliminary Examination (Objective Test, Qualifying)
- Online Main Examination (Objective Test, marks count for final merit)
- Provisional Allotment (based on Main Exam score + preference + vacancy availability)
- Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT) — after Main exam/allotment, before joining
- Document Verification / Identity Verification
There’s no separate interview round — the entire selection rests on your written exam performance, making preparation strategy and time management in the online tests absolutely critical.
📚 Examination Syllabus & Pattern
A. Preliminary Examination (Total: 100 marks, 60 minutes)
| Test | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| English Language | 30 | 30 | 20 min |
| Numerical Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 min |
| Reasoning Ability | 35 | 35 | 20 min |
B. Main Examination (Total: 160 questions, 200 marks, 125 minutes)
| Test | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| General/Financial Awareness | 40 | 50 | 20 min |
| General English | 40 | 40 | 35 min |
| Reasoning Ability | 40 | 60 | 35 min |
| Quantitative Aptitude | 40 | 50 | 35 min |
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer (no penalty for unattempted questions).
- Medium of exam: English + Hindi + regional language depending on the State/UT applied for.
Both tests are individually timed section wise; hence, students cannot change the timings of sections. A balanced study routine of all subjects i.e. English, Reasoning, Quant and GK becomes necessary more so for Mains because it is of more importance.

📝 How to Apply
- Visit the official IBPS website: www.ibps.in
- Click on the “CRP CSA” link, then select “Click Here to Apply Online for CRP-CSA-XVI”.
- Register using “Click Here for New Registration” — note your Provisional Registration Number & Password (also sent via Email/SMS).
- Fill in personal, educational, and category details carefully.
- Upload photograph, signature, left thumb impression, hand-written declaration, and 10th standard/equivalent certificate as per specified size/format.
- Pay the application fee online (RuPay/Visa/MasterCard/UPI/Net Banking).
- Submit the form and download/print the e-receipt and application form for your records.
Note: Fields like Name, Email ID, Mobile Number, State/UT, Post, and Nationality cannot be edited after submission — fill these with extreme care.
Newcomers must consider this as a single process only: using the “Save and Next” approach will help in looking at all fields before the final submission, otherwise any correction done in the future (Edit Window facility) will cost extra ₹200 per each field.
📜 General Conditions
- Not more than one application is allowed; multiple applications lead to forfeiture of extra fees.
- Candidates must carry valid Call Letter + original photo ID (PAN/Passport/Aadhaar/Voter ID etc.) at the exam center — Ration Card & Learner’s License are not accepted.
- Any use of unfair means, impersonation, or mobile phones inside the exam hall leads to disqualification and possible debarment from future IBPS exams.
- IBPS reserves the right to change exam structure, cancel/add exam centres, or conduct re-exams if required.
- The Edit Window (2 days post-registration) allows one-time correction of the form for a ₹200 fee — Name, Email, Mobile, State/UT, Post, and Nationality still cannot be changed.
- Provisional allotment is not a guarantee of employment — final appointment depends on document verification and medical fitness as decided by the allotted bank.
This is done to preserve the sanctity of the examination. Therefore, take the format of your call letter, ID proof, and photograph as absolute and without fail, as even slight differences have caused candidates to be rejected during their examinations in previous years.
