Key qualification rules:
- Only regular full-time courses from recognized Boards/Universities/Institutes are accepted — part-time, correspondence, or distance-mode qualifications are not eligible.
- Diploma/Graduation/ITI must be in the exact specified branch/subject; other branches are rejected.
- Candidates with BE/B.Tech, MBA, CA, LLB, MCA or equivalent higher qualifications are not eligible, even if pursuing and completed before joining.
- B.Sc (PCM/Industrial Chemistry) candidates can apply to only one of codes 101, 103, or 108. B.Com holders can apply to only one of codes 108 or 109.
- Candidates applying to more than one trade/discipline will be summarily rejected.
This qualification matrix makes it easy for candidates to instantly check which IOCL apprentice trade matches their degree or diploma before applying.
📉 Minimum Qualifying Marks

- CGPA/OGPA/Letter Grade must be converted to equivalent percentage as per the issuing Board/University norms, and a conversion certificate must be submitted at Document Verification.
- For ITI trades, only pass marks are required (no minimum percentage threshold).
- Minimum qualifying marks are relaxed by 5% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates against reserved positions.
Since there’s no written exam, your qualifying degree/diploma percentage directly decides your merit rank — so these cutoff marks matter more than in most other government jobs.
🎂 Age Limit
As on 30 June 2026 (cut-off date for all 4 refineries):

Only the Matriculation (Class X) certificate is accepted as proof of date of birth — no other document will be considered.
💰 Application Fee
There has been no fee mentioned by IOCL in all the four notifications. The process of engagement at IOCL is completely free through the portals of NAPS/NATS and Microsoft Forms. (It is advised to always refer to the official notification to avoid any fraudulent claims of fee payment.)
⚙️ Selection Process
There is NO Written Test / CBT / Interview for any of these four IOCL apprentice posts. Selection is purely:
- Merit List based on percentage of marks (aggregate of all years/semesters) in the qualifying examination.
- Tie-breaker: older date of birth wins; if still tied, higher Matriculation percentage decides.
- Document Verification of shortlisted candidates.
- Pre-Engagement Medical Fitness examination.
- Offer of Engagement to candidates clearing both DV and medical fitness.
Preference is given to first-time apprentices over those repeating apprenticeship in a different trade. This no-exam process means your academic percentage is everything — there’s no second chance to “perform better” on exam day.
📚 Examination Syllabus
