The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai has released Advertisement No. 4/2026 (R-V) for the recruitment of Junior Research Fellows (JRF). A total of 105 fellowships (indicative) are available in Physical, Chemical, and Life Sciences disciplines.

Selected candidates will register for PhD at Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) under the Department of Atomic Energy.

Interested candidates who have qualified national level exams like CSIR-NET, GATE, JEST, ICMR-JRF, DBT-BET, ICAR-JRF, JGEEBILS can apply online before 31 March 2026.

Discipline and Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess M.Sc / Integrated M.Sc / B.S-M.S / B.S (with Research) in relevant subjects.

1. Physics

  • Qualification:
    • M.Sc / Integrated M.Sc / B.S-M.S / B.S (Research) in Physics
  • Requirement:
    • Mathematics must be one subject in B.Sc

2. Chemistry

Subjects allowed:

  • General Chemistry
  • Applied Chemistry
  • Organic Chemistry
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Physical Chemistry
  • Analytical Chemistry

Additional requirements:

  • Physics as ancillary subject in B.Sc
  • Mathematics at H.Sc level

Not eligible:

  • Industrial Chemistry

Minimum Qualifying Marks

Required National Level Exams

  • DBT-BET (Biotechnology Eligibility Test)
  • GATE (Physics / Chemistry / Life Sciences / Biotechnology)
  • JGEEBILS

Scores must be valid as on 1 July 2026.

Reservation

Reservation will be provided according to Government of India rules for:

  • SC
  • ST
  • OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)

Candidates must provide valid caste certificates in prescribed formats.

Selection Process

The selection process includes:

  1. Application Screening
    • Based on national level exam scores.
  2. Interview
    • Shortlisted candidates will be called for interview at BARC Mumbai.
  3. Final Selection
    • Based only on interview performance.

In case of a tie:

  • Marks in M.Sc / B.Sc will be considered.

Fellowship and Salary

Selected candidates will receive:

Junior Research Fellowship (First 2 Years)

  • ₹37,000 per month

Senior Research Fellowship (After 2 Years)

  • ₹42,000 per month

Additional Benefits:

  • Contingency Grant: ₹60,000 per year
  • Financial assistance to attend one international conference
  • Health scheme facility

Total fellowship duration: 5 Years.

    • Hyderabad
    • Visakhapatnam.

Travel Allowance for Interview

Candidates attending interviews will be reimbursed:

  • Third AC railway fare for travel to Mumbai
  • Air travelers will be reimbursed AC-III tier equivalent fare

Tickets must be produced for reimbursement.


Accommodation

  • Hostel accommodation is provided where available.
  • If hostel is unavailable, House Rent Allowance (HRA) will be provided.
